Hash text
Paste text and copy the hex. SHA-1 is marked as outdated.
HashOn this device
The hash is computed with the browser’s Web Crypto API and shown as lowercase hex. SHA-256 is the default. SHA-1 remains available because some old checksums still use it, and the page says it is outdated.
How to use it
- Paste the text.
- Pick the algorithm.
- Copy the hex or download it.
Good to know
- An empty box is not hashed. A hash of an empty string is a real value, but it is easy to confuse with a skipped step.
- This is not a password store and it does not add a salt.
- The text stays in this tab.
Questions
Is SHA-1 safe?
No, not for security. Use SHA-256 or stronger unless you are matching a checksum that is already SHA-1.
Why is the hex lowercase?
That is the usual form for checksums. The letters a–f are the same value either way.
